Biometric Civil Registration process to get your National Identification Number-NIN

Registration Eligibility  

  • All Citizens and Non-Citizens resident in Sierra Leone are Mandated by law (NCR Act 2016) to register with the NCRA
  • After registration, your National Identification Number (NIN) will be automatically generated and assigned. Note that Registration is Free
  • Registration can be done for everyone aged 0 year and above
  • Civil Registration is Compulsory, Continuous, Permanent and Universal-(NCR Act 2016)

Registration Requirements

  • Registration MUST be done in person
  • Applicants are required to present a form of identification for initial registration (ie. either of the following: Birth Certificate, Passport book, Driver’s License, Voter ID Card etc).

Biometrics Required 

All of the Finger Prints, Photograph and other personal details.

Key Registration Steps 

  • The Registration Officer will input all necessary personal details about the Applicant into the electronic VIU machine as stated on the identity document presented by the Applicant.
  • An Applicant will be required to verify his/her personal information inputted into the electronic VIU Machine for confirmation. 
  • Receipt of Registration will be issued to Applicant bearing the National Identification Number (NIN) that is non-duplicating or reused
